H.E Hon. Prof. Anyang' Nyong'oFounder & Chairman

H.E Hon. Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o is the Governor for Kisumu County, having previously served as Minister for Medical Services in the Government of Kenya and Minister for Planning and National Development from 2003-2005. A political scientist by profession, with a PhD from the University of Chicago, he has taken keen interest in cancer matters having been diagnosed with prostate cancer and treated at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center by Dr. Mack Roach in early 2011.

His main mission is to make people aware of the importance of having regular medical check-ups so as to know their health status and receive early care to avoid unnecessary morbidity and mortality. In this regard he works hard to make government avail affordable healthcare to all without regard to social status. He has been a strong champion of social health insurance and programmes of social protection for the poor in Africa.

He is the author of many books and articles on politics and the political economy of development in Africa, and is currently working on a book on “The Political Economy of Health Delivery Systems in Kenya.”

Arthur KotengBoard Member

Arthur Koteng is a Nuclear Regulator and holds the position of Deputy Chief Radiation Protection Officer with the Radiation Protection Board at Kenya’s Ministry of Public Health. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (physics Major) from the University of Nairobi and an MSc (Radiation and Environmental protection) from University of Surrey, UK.

He has achieved a lot in his field having participated in Nuclear Security between 2004 and 2008, regulatory infrastructure which runs from 2009 to 2013 and is the National Officer, International Nuclear event scale. His experience as a nuclear regulator informs the work of the ACF technical committee which is inspired by the experiences of the cancer patients he engages with on a daily basis. He is a member of several social and professional associations.

He comes to the Africa Cancer Foundation with the zeal to help improve health services to fellow Africans and sees the Foundation as the best platform for this. 

Dr. Sylvia OjooBoard Member

Dr. Sylvia Ojoo is a Medical Doctor and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland, in the US.  She holds a MBChB from the University of Nairobi, Kenya as well as a Postgraduate diploma in Internal Medicine - MRCP (London, UK).

She also holds Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and of Family Planning and Reproductive Health. Dr.Ojoo has been involved in clinical capacity building of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students both in the United Kingdom and in Kenya for the past 10 years and is currently responsible for the capacity building in a program providing HIV treatment to over 40,000 patients in Kenya, with all services provided in the primary care setting.

She is the Country Medical Director for University of Maryland’s Programs in Kenya. 

Allan WamangaBoard Member

Allan Wamanga is currently the CEO of Med Access Africa Limited. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business Administration from United States International University (USIU), Nairobi and a Master's degree in International Business from The Grenoble Graduate School of Business, France. Allan has worked in Geneva, Switzerland as an intern and later an analyst with firms specializing in alternative investments for HNW individuals of investment funds.

He also worked at Resolution Health East Africa before pursuing his masters’ degree in France. Allan who is a trustee of Africa Cancer Foundation brings on board skills and experience in health care management and coordination, network of Global Health-care providers and practitioners, financial Management, planning and operations management. He encounters cancer on a regular basis because his career involves dealing with numerous cancer patients seeking treatment out of Kenya, and is moved by the realization that early diagnosis could significantly reduce the number of victims.

He believes that the Africa Cancer Foundation is a great initiative that could help address this. He sees his participation in the foundation as an opportunity to create awareness of the seriousness of this problem and make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer in Africa.

Sudhir VidyarthiBoard Member

Sudhir Vidhyarthi is the Managing Director of Colourprint Ltd. He has also been the Director of Radio Africa for the last 10yrs, the Chairman of East FM and Chairman of Research Solutions Ltd.

A member of the Kenyan Asian Forum, founder of East Action Club of Africa (EACA) and a member of Asian-African Heritage Foundation.

Dr. Omondi Nyong’oBoard Member

Dr. Omondi Nyong’o is a pediatric ophthalmologist at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. He holds a Bachelors of Science, Cum Laude, and Neuroscience with distinction in physics from Brown University, an MD from the University Of California San Francisco School Of Medicine, and has received the Rabb-Venable research prize in ophthalmology from the National Medical Association.

He has several accomplishments in his profession having been a professor and instructor at University of California San Francisco and Stanford University School of Medicine. He has published widely and is certified by American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Nyong’o serves on multiple volunteer medical missions to Mexico where he performs free eye surgery for children and adults, and also teaches surgery to Latin American ophthalmologists-in-training. He also staffs a charity clinic for blind children at the San Francisco public hospital. 

Dr. Fatmah AbdallahBoard Member

Dr. Fatmah Abdallah is a Pediatric Oncologist. She holds a MBChB, M. Med (Path) and is currently a member of the Task Force on National values as well as the Medical Practitioner’s and Dentists.

She received both her medical and specialization degrees at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Nairobi, Kenya. She got the Prize for the best postgraduate student and got a job at the Red Cross Childrens’ Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa.

After being recognized as a Board-Certified Pathologist, she was appointed a lecturer and later as a senior lecturer, in the Department of Haematology at the University of Nairobi. She also works at Kenyatta National and Referral Hospital in the area of blood diseases, cancer and transfusion medicine. Most of her daily work involves managing children with cancer.

Dr Abdallah edits articles for the East African Medical Journal and is a member of some community service organizations. She is a firm advocate of prevention of diseases and a believer in natural methods to health.

Mrs. Dorothy Nyong’oManaging Director

Mrs. Dorothy Nyong’o, the Managing Director of Africa Cancer Foundation, is the First Lady of Kisumu County and Director of 7th Sense Communications Limited. She is a PR consultant and holds an Executive MSc in Organizational Development from the United States International University (Nairobi), a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications and a BA Hons (French, Political Science) from the University of Nairobi.

Dorothy has participated in and organized numerous conferences around the world. She has provided consultancy services for the public sector, international and national NGOs most notably the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK) where she conducted research and wrote a project on “strategies for increasing the visibility of NGOs in Kenya”. Dorothy, who had a close encounter with cancer, when her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010, believes that with sufficient information sent out in the right way, the number of cancer deaths would reduce.

She works with faith and is optimistic that the cancer-free Africa dream will be realized through the Africa Cancer Foundation as it networks with other like-minded organizations around the world.

Ms. Pamela Adhiambo DedeBoard Member

Ms. Pamela Adhiambo Dede is currently a farmer and business person based in Malindi. She retired from public service with the rank of Deputy Director in October in 2017 after 30 years of service.

She holds a Master of Development Economics Degree from Williams College, Massachusetts, USA and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Nairobi.  Pamela who is a breast cancer victor is also a trained counselor.

Ms. Mercy OburuBoard Member

Mercy Oburu is currently the Digital Content Manager at Royal Media Services. Her duties are mainly centered around managing a team that generates content for Citizen Digital and eDaily websites. The two websites are mainly driven by up to date news and entertainment.

She also heads the Team that pushes content on Social media, that is - programs, news and videos for TV and 13 Radio stations at Royal Media Services. This is on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram platforms as well as for Royal Media Services events.

She also does administrative duties for the Editorial Department at Royal Media Services which includes Citizen TV, Inooro TV and thirteen radio stations and also handles the company’s TV and Radio correspondents spread across the country.
